THE ROLE
A leadership role owning pricing strategy, capital and risk management, and actuarial analytics for a specialized insurance organization, building the function from the ground up.

THE TASKS
Pricing & Product Support
- Lead actuarial pricing analysis to support product profitability and financial sustainability
- Provide experience studies, trend analysis, loss projections, and scenario modelling
- Lead actuarial support for product design, coverage structure, and program evolution
- Own the annual renewal cycle, pricing adjustments, and supporting budget inputs
- Refresh and maintain the rating manual and underlying rating factors for each product
- Assess the revenue, capital, and expense-load impacts of new and existing products
Capital & Risk Management
- Lead actuarial input into capital adequacy, capital planning, and financial resilience
- Support development and maintenance of the ORSA and related capital frameworks
- Contribute to the enterprise risk management process, including capital impacts of corporate risks
Actuarial Oversight & Analytics
- Act as liaison with the external appointed actuary through budgeting and year-end cycles
- Oversee actuarial data integrity, assumptions, and model governance
- Communicate findings and risk implications to senior leadership
Reinsurance Strategy & Support
- Provide actuarial support for reinsurance strategy, renewals, and program optimization
- Assess reinsurance impacts on capital adequacy and financial resilience
Regulatory Reporting
- Support quarterly regulatory filings, including minimum capital reporting
- Ensure pricing documentation aligns with actuarial and regulatory standards

THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a greenfield mandate: a brand-new director seat with no predecessor, where you will build the pricing and actuarial function from scratch and own it end to end. Ideal for an actuarial professional ready to trade big-company silos for breadth, visibility, and a direct line to the executive team.
THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE PREVIEW
By Month 1
- Learn the full product suite by working directly with the business unit leaders
- Understand the current capital planning position and priorities
- Get grounded in the quarterly P&C regulatory return and minimum capital framework
- Build working relationships across the finance and insurance teams
By Month 3
- Move past the learning curve from assessing to recommending on pricing, capital, and risk
- Deliver a prioritized list of improvement areas to the VP Finance and executive team
- Support the renewal and budgeting cycle in progress
- Begin improvements to pricing governance and reporting
By Month 6
- Support year-end close, reserves review, and work with the external actuary and auditors
- Complete a full review of the rating manual with recommendations
- Begin executing improvements to pricing models
By Month 12
- Complete a full refresh of the rating manual
- Review and improve every pricing model across the product suite
- Fully implement the pricing governance framework with product profitability reviews
- Refresh the capital plan and support the ORSA update, integrated into the ERM process
THE SKILL SET
- 3-5 years of P&C actuarial experience in pricing or finance
- Advanced Excel skills
- Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline
