THE ROLE
A key contributor supporting the corporate accounting function of a growing real estate development platform, responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.

  • Billing, Recoveries & Payables (25%)
  • Cash Management & Reconciliations (20%)
  • Tax, Compliance & Year-End Reporting (15%)
THE TASKS
Full-Cycle Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Prepare monthly working papers and supporting schedules for the development platform’s management entity
  • Perform key account reconciliations including bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
  • Process payroll reconciliations and verify accuracy of payroll-related journal entries
  • Record general journal entries including accruals, prepaid amortizations, and adjusting entries
  • Coordinate with the assistant controller to ensure all month-end deliverables meet established timelines
  • Prepare annual year-end reporting packages for external audit requirements
Billing, Recoveries & Payables
  • Review and process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions on a weekly basis
  • Manage management fee billing and chargeback processes across development entities
  • Administer the corporate credit card program including reconciliation and expense categorization
  • Process direct recovery billings and ensure accurate cost allocation to appropriate entities
Cash Management & Reconciliations
  • Prepare weekly cash position reports and monitor daily bank balances
  • Perform bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Support intercompany loan tracking and reconciliation across related entities
Tax, Compliance & Year-End Reporting
  • Prepare and file monthly HST returns in compliance with CRA requirements
  • Manage intercompany transactions and ensure proper documentation for audit readiness

THE OPPORTUNITY
An ideal opportunity for an intermediate corporate accountant looking to take on a meaningful role within a lean, collaborative team where your work directly impacts the financial operations of an active development platform. With a hands-on manager who values transparency and professional growth, this role offers exposure to multi-entity accounting across a growing real estate portfolio.

THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE PREVIEW
By Month 1
  • Take ownership of daily accounting tasks and familiarize yourself with the entity structure of the development platform
  • Build working relationships with the assistant controller and immediate team members
  • Understand existing processes for month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting workflows
  • Gain familiarity with accounting systems and the chart of accounts
By Month 3
  • Independently manage monthly close deliverables including working papers and reconciliations
  • Handle all billing cycles including management fees, chargebacks, and direct recovery billings
  • Take full ownership of HST filings and tax compliance deliverables
  • Demonstrate reliability in meeting recurring deadlines with minimal oversight
By Month 6
  • Manage the full scope of corporate accounting for the development platform independently
  • Contribute to quarterly management reporting with confidence and accuracy
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency in recurring tasks
  • Support intercompany accounting and multi-entity reconciliations with accuracy
By Month 12
  • Own the annual year-end reporting process and deliver complete audit-ready packages
  • Serve as a reliable resource for the corporate accounting team across all recurring deliverables
  • Demonstrate mastery of the platform’s financial operations and multi-entity structure
  • Contribute to team development and knowledge sharing within the department

THE SKILL SET
  • A minimum of 4 years of corporate accounting experience, whether in industry or public practice
  • CPA is preferred but not required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
